This scheme initiated by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been operational since 23th September 2018.

This scheme is known as Ayushman Bharat or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), under which eligible families are provided with a health insurance cover of ₹5 lakh per year. This enables economically weaker individuals to avail free medical treatment (up to ₹5 lakh) for any member of their family. To avail this benefit, you need to have an Ayushman Card.

Earlier, Ayushman Cards could only be made through Common Service Centers, Gram Rozgar Sahayak, and Ayushman Mitra. But now, you can make it from the comfort of your home using your mobile phone in just a few minutes. Let’s find out how to make an Ayushman Card from your mobile phone.

How to make Ayushman card

  • Open the Ayushman app and click on Accept. This is the National Health Authority’s privacy policy.
  • On the next interface, click on Login. If you don’t understand English, you can change the language here.
  • Now, select the Beneficiary option first, enter your mobile number, and click on Verify.
  • Then, enter the OTP received on your mobile number, fill in the Captcha code correctly, and click on Login.
  • After logging in, first select PMJAY in the Scheme, select your state, and select the Ration Card option in Sub-Scheme. Select Family id in Search By, select your district, and finally enter your ration card number in the bottommost box and click on Search.
  • After that, a list of all the people whose names are in the ration card will appear. Here, next to the names of those who already have an Ayushman card, there will be an option to Download Card, and next to those who don’t, there will be an option written as Do e-KYC. To make an Ayushman card, click on the Do e-KYC option next to the person’s name.
  • Now, a pop-up will open from below, where four options for e-KYC will be given. Since ordinary people do not have fingerprint, IRIS scan, or Face RD service, we will do e-KYC with Aadhaar number. Select the Aadhaar OTP option and click on Verify.
  • Then, tick on Yes, I accept in the pop-up that opens and click on Allow.
  • Now, enter the Aadhaar OTP received in the first message, then enter the OTP received from the National Health Authority.
  • After that, a new interface will open where you should enter all the information correctly and click on Submit. This way, your Ayushman card will be ready.

How to download Ayushman card

To download your Ayushman card, follow the steps below:

  • Install the Ayushman app and open it.
  • Log in with your mobile number and OTP.
  • Search for your family using the Family ID.
  • Click on the Download Card option next to your name. Then, verify your Aadhaar number.
  • Now, you can download the Ayushman card for all members of your family.
  • Click on your name in the list of members. Then, click on the Download option below.
  • This way, you can download your Ayushman card.

Benefits of Ayushman Card

Largest Health Insurance Scheme:

The main objective of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is to make it the world’s largest health insurance scheme. Its aim is to provide a health insurance cover of 5 lakh rupees annually to 12 crore economically weaker families in India. Provision has been made for providing 5 lakh annual insurance for secondary and tertiary care in hospitals.

Free Medical Treatment:

With the help of the Ayushman card, you can avail free treatment and medicines at all government hospitals across the country and some selected private hospitals. You can find these hospitals through the government website.

More Eligible Diseases:

Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, you can get free treatment (up to 5 lakh rupees) for 13,593 diseases. These diseases include cancer, malaria, COVID-19, bypass surgery, mental illnesses, child delivery, brain tumor, and more. Some diseases such as HIV/AIDS, dental treatment, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, etc., are not covered.
